January 16, 2008
Reverend C. David Goff of the Methodist Church and Bishop Philip Wright of the Anglican Church met with the Leader of the Opposition, the Honourable Dean Barrow, on Tuesday. The two Church leaders shared their concerns for the upcoming elections to be conducted in a fair, civil and respectful manner, reflective of a peace-loving people. Assurances were given by the Leader of the Opposition that, as much as lie in his hands and that of his party, such was going to be the case and that there was no need for an undue expectation of the contrary. The Church leaders also spoke of the commitment of the Church to continue to work with any duly elected administration for the advancement of our people and the development of our beloved country. They reiterated the point that it has always been the Church’s understanding of its sacred role, and God-given mandate, to work for the realization of the potential God has placed in each and every one of us. The Church therefore seeks to work in partnership with all other entities that share this conviction. Reverend Goff and Bishop Wright went on to assure Mr Barrow of their continued prayers for him, the other members of the opposition party, and all others offering themselves for public office and service in the upcoming elections. Indeed, through it all, may God’s will for the Belizean people be done. Reverend Goff and Bishop Wright calls on all Belizeans and residents of this country, in the weeks leading up to the General Elections, to conduct themselves in a manner that shows respect and consideration for the welfare and opinions of others.
