MESOAMERICAN COUNTRIES JOIN BELIZE IN CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE

The Mesoamerican countries are joining in on the September Celebrations with a two day Festival. Popular dances and folk music will be on display in Belmopan on the 13^th, September and in Belize City on the 14^th. Marcelino Miranda is the Press Officer at the Institute of Mexico.

“The embassies of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, and Nicaragua have decided to join Belize in the Celebration of their Independence. This initiative is because Central American Countries and Mexico recognize the importance of Belize and especially the fact that it a multi-cultural society. We want to strengthen the bonds between the countries and especially the friendship that exists between all countries. We are going to have a great festival and concert that is going to be held on September the 13^th and we are going to take group from Guatemala” Ujuum Mayab”. They are going to perform a repertoire of Guatemalan popular music. We are also going to have two groups from Mexico, one of them is the “Pilmijtotianij” they are a Children ballet. They have international experience as they have performed in many countries. They have been in Budapest, Hungary, in London as well, in Serbia, all these countries in Europe. They are going to perform on the same day as well as the reggae group Yerba Santa from Mexico. We are also going to have a group of Belizean traditional dance and all of them are going to perform on the 13^th of September at the Governor General Field in Belmopan. The event will start at 4 p.m., the admission is free so everyone is invited, please come with your family. The following day we are going to continue the celebration with Belizean people, that will be at the BlissCenter for the Performing Arts in Belize City and we are going to have again a performance by the children ballet. The event will start at 6 pm. The admission is free and everybody is invited.”

On the 13^th the festival will be at the Governor General’s Field in Belmopan at 4:00pm and at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts at 6:00pm on the 14^th. Admissions are free at both venues.
