“The church actually began in the US in the year 1908.It was an amalgamation of several churches together, churches that believed in the principles of holiness. These churches amalgamated and became what we call the Pentecostal church of the Nazarene. Twenty- five years later the name changed from Pentecostal church of the Nazarene to the Church of the Nazarene. The church spread throughout the world with missionaries and it reached Belize through missionaries who came from Guatemala. This was around the 1960’s the missionaries set up a mission group in Benque.”

The church first opened its doors on the 13 of October 1908; however, the centennial celebration will culminate this coming Sunday the 5th of October.

“We have prepared to introduce the centennial service a parade that we believe should follow the main streets of Belize City to indicate to the city that the Church of the Nazarene still exists and is going strong. We have invited several churches to participate; we are also going to have NazarenePrimary school, NazareneHigh School, and members of the congregation. We want to support the different missions; there is one where we train young people. There is also one where we will train people to do mission work. We also have a Sunday school program that involves bible teaching every Sunday. We want to promote these programs as we take part in the march.”

The parade will start at the FirstChurch of the Nazarene on Albert Street and end at the KingsParkChurch of the Nazarene.  After the parade there will be an afternoon of sports for the young people.
