October 29, 2008
The Belize District has been divided into four zones in an effort to better facilitate relief efforts and assistance. But water levels continue to rise and Area Representative for the Belize Rural North Constituency remains on the ground assisting his residents in his area.
Edmund Castro; Area Representative Belize Rural North Constituency
“The water at the Mexico Creek Bridge have risen even higher now we have close to a mile in water we have much more than that, we also have water gushing across the area there in the 16 miles area, Dakers Ranch Field Area. In Bomba we have medical relief, yesterday we had food supplies and other items delivered to Bomba that had been cut off and today we have medical emergency personnel in there. We are now stock piling relief supplies in Maskall because the water that is coming from the Mexico Creek area will eventually have to reach us in that part of the constituency as well. We are trying to get supplies and will be getting supplies to the other areas such as the Beverly Hills/Burrell Boom area; we have been sending and will continue to send supplies to the Isabella Bank, Bamboo Patch, Lemonal, Rancho Dolores, Crooked Tree, Grace Bank, Davis Bank and now we are seeing that people in the Sand Hill area and Gardenia area that are now affected by these flood waters.”
Minister Castro says he has also been working very closely with Area Representative Michael Hutchinson.

“In Eight Miles and Sunset Park, I spoke with the Area Representative and they are under extreme stress as well. So what we have done we have divided the Belize District into four zones. The first zone including Ladyville, Lord’s Bank, Hattieville, 8 Miles, Sunset and the Sibun River Communities; Zone two comprise of the Burrell Boom, Scotland, Buttercup, Flowers Bank, Isabella Bank, Lemonal, Bermudian Landing, Double Head, Willow’s Bank, Saint Paul’s Bank and Rancho Dolores. Zone 3 is the communities along the new Northern Highway from Sand Hill, Davis Bank, Grace Bank, Maypen, Biscayne, Gardenia, Crooked Tree and including Rhaburn Ridge; Zone four are all the villages along the old Northern Highway including, Boston, Lucky Strike, Rockstone Pond, Santana, Corozalito, Saint Ann’s, Maskall and Bomba. So those are the four zones that we have divided the district into so that it is easier to manage and get the supplies to our people.”
The affected areas in the Belize District continue to be monitored as flood waters is expected to continue to rise in some parts of the district.
