October 30, 2008

Belize Telemedia Limited continues to assist the students and staff of Bethel primary School in Belize City. Last year Telemedia adopted the school as a part of their Adopt a School Program. As a part of the program Telemedia also assist with a feeding and mentoring program at the school. Today the company launched year two of its Breakfast feeding program for the children of Bethel. Telemedia’s Public Relations Executive Linette Canto tells us more.

Linnette Canto; Public Relations Executive, Telemedia

“We are very excited about this because it has two different aspects to it this year. The first is a feeding program that will provide 30 students with breakfast on a daily basis through Telemdia. In addition we are launching the second phase of our mentoring program which has proven to be a significant success last year. This year 25 employees of Telemedia have signed on to mentor the children here at Bethel Primary School. They will be coming in a on a weekly basis to assist the students with reading and writing. So all in all we are looking forward to another successful year here at Bethel primary school.”

As a part of the mentoring program 25 employees of the company will take part in a training session to better equip them to assist the students.

Linnette Canto; Public Relations Executive, Telemedia

“How it works is that Telemedia looks for employees who have qualities such as patients, caring, dedicated and once these employees have these specific qualities then they are approached and if they are willing to do it then they are signed on as mentors. We actually have a training that is done with them to prepare them to be effective mentors and that training is going to take place tomorrow. The training will be done by Doctor Wright and she is qualified in this area and is a Dean at the University of Belize.”

The mentors will be provided with a daily schedule of what the children should focus on during the sessions.
