“At this point in time we have sent out a letter to all our members inviting them to please contribute to the victims and we are asking them to do in through the Belize Chamber of Commerce/Western Union. That way as long as they give us 500 hundred dollars it will wined up to be 1 thousand dollars. Western Union Belize have teamed up with the Western Union Foundation and they have agreed to match every dollar we make up to 50 thousand dollars which means that we have the potential and the possibility of donating up to 100 thousand dollars to this relief effort. I must say that we have had some significant donations from the Atlantic Group of Companies, Belize Diesel, Bravo Motors, International Services Limited and we have several other companies that have been very kind”.
Funds raised by the Belize Chamber of Commerce will be handed over to the Belize Red Cross.
Omar Ortiz; Manager of Business Development
"It’s going to go to the Belize Red Cross and they will be responsible for disseminating the funds and utilizing it the best way possible. I am hoping that if we can raise the 50 thousand dollars locally by the middle of November or earlier, as soon as we raise that money we will then transfer it to the Belize Red Cross. If not I am hoping that we should be able to do so by the middle of November. If not I am hoping that we should do so no later than the middle of November at which point in time whatever funds we are able to raise we will match and transfer it to them.”
The initiative began earlier this week and will end at the end of November.
