Cattle farmers in flooded areas are being advised to vaccinate their cattle for Blackleg. Love News spoke to Agricultural Officer for the Belize District, Jose Tillett.
Jose Tillett; Agricultural Officer for the Belize District
“Blackleg is a highly fatal disease from young cattle. It is cause by bacteria. The disease is not transmitted directly from sick animals to healthy animals by direct contact. One of the signs of black leg is mainly lameness and lost appetite. Why we are vaccinating the animals in the Belize District because they have been standing in water for three to four days and they could die liken in 12 to 24 hours if they catch the disease. It is a highly infectious disease. So far we don’t have any black leg at the moment. It is a preventative measure.”
Jose Tillett, Agricultural Officer for the Belize District.
