BELIZE RURAL CENTRAL LAUNCHES FLOOD VICTIMS APPEAL

October 31, 2008

A fundraising committee has been formed to assist flood victims in the Belize Rural Central Constituency. Area Representative Michael Hutchinson tells us more.

Michael Hutchinson, Area Representative – Belize Rural North

“The fund raising drive that we started yesterday is still up and running. There are people over at my office ready to receive whatever monetary donation or non-perishable items that have been displaced by the flood. We have the human services and NEMO that are doing a good job feeding flood victims. Approximately 67 persons have gone into shelters. Others have gone to stay with friends and family. When some of those people return to their houses there is going to be a lot of structural damage. They will need to take time off to clean up. I believe that even after the flood there will still be a need for us to help our people in and around our communities. That is why I am going to continue the food drive and we will be accepting any monetary donation during the course of this week and next month.”

Anyone wishing to assist the committee with their relief efforts can contact Minister Hutchinson’s office at telephone numbers 2-2-5-3-9-3-9 or 6-0-7-2-6-0-7.
