BELIZE RED CROSS CONTINUE TO ASSIST FLOOD VICTIMS

November 03, 2008

The Belize Red Cross continues to assist communities affected by flood waters over the past two weeks. Today a water treatment plant was installed in Bermudian landing. Rafael Martinez spoke to Love News.

Rafael Martinez; Communications Officer Belize Red Cross

“Today the Belize Red Cross in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and PAHO installed a water purification plant in Bermudian Landing which produces 4 thousand liters of purified water per hour. In Crooked Tree over 102 assessments have been completed along with the distribution of baby milk, food items, baby pampers, clothing, chlorine tablets and blankets. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Belize Mills Limited for donating one thousand pounds of flour to assist the flood victims. One of the fundamental principles of the Belize Red Cross is humanity which translates into assisting people in need regardless of race, creed, colour or orientation with the basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter. Sadly there are some people who insisted on capitalizing on the misfortune of others as just last week there was an attempted break in here at the headquarters of the Belize Red Cross in Belize City. Again over the weekend our Mitsubishi pick up truck which is being used in assisting with the movement of items to aid the flood victims was broken into resulting in the communication equipment, a VHS radio being stolen. This is a lost in a major component in our communication network. Information leading to the recovery of our communication equipment can be given to the nearest police station or our headquarters at the corner of Gabourel Lane and Handyside Street in Belize City. Our telephone numbers are 2273319 223 4276.”

The Belize Red Cross continues to accept donations in cash or kind to aid the victims of flood in the affected areas. Items can be dropped off at the Red Cross Branches countrywide or at the headquarters here in Belize City at the corner of Handyside Street and Gabourel Lane.
