MUNICIPAL CONVENTIONS HELD OVER THE WEEKEND IN DANGRIGA AND COROZAL

A new United Democratic Party slate contesting the upcoming municipal elections for Dangriga was elected yesterday. Kenrick Francisco is the Chairman of the UDP executive Council in Dangriga.

“Nine Hundred and twenty one members of the United Democratic Party voted yesterday in the convention at Christ the King Anglican School. The councilors are Peter Ciego who received 512 votes, Grace Fairweather who received 472 votes, Alexander Joseph with 446 votes,  Charles Mariano with 608 votes, Harry Sabal with 382 votes and Elvis Usher with 448 votes. With reference to the Mayoral Candidacy, John Castillo received 135 votes; Alden Chavez received 229 votes, Aaron Gongora received 266 votes and Francis Marin received 264 votes. With Aaron Gongora getting the highest votes in the initial stage; a recount was requested by Francis Marin and that will be honored. Both he and Aaron Gongora will be present during this process in Belize City. We want to thank the management and administration of Christ the King Anglican School for the use of their school building, the Dangriga Police Department and those businesses that supported the candidates and the party. The plan now is to pool our resources and to work together in an effort to secure victory in 2009.”

Mayor of Belize City Zenaida Moya was in Dangriga for the convention yesterday. A date and time for the recount of the ballots has not been set.

The People’s United Party also held a convention yesterday in Corozal. Secretary General of the People’s United Party Servulo Baeza told Love News that 658 people cast their votes in the convention yesterday. Lloyd Carillo and Ivan Castillo contested the mayoral seat with Ivan Castillo wining with 599 votes over Carillo’s 28 votes. Councilor candidates elected to contest the upcoming municipal election include Rosa Cassanova, Miriam Gilharry, Raul Mai, Rudolpho Narvaez, Hernan Ramirez, Miguel Ricalde, Tulio Rodriguez and Arcenio Vasquez. As we were told yesterday conventions for the people’s united party will be held in district towns throughout the rest of this month.
