YOUTH BUSINESS TRUST BELIZE ACCREDITED INTO INTERNATIONAL NETWORK

The Prince’s Youth Business International has accepted Youth Business Trust Belize into the Global Network. Forty countries from around the world make up the Youth Business Network that aims to solve the plague of youth unemployment in their respective countries. Project Officer at Youth Business Trust Belize Beverly Coleman says that the accreditation means a lot to them.

“Youth Business Trust Belize being accredited by the Prince’s Youth Business International means a lot to us. It gives us access to a 40 country network where we share ideas and best practices; we share standards and set standards for the implementation of the projects inclusive of transparency and accountability. It a globally sound International Brand with supporters like our head who is Prince Charles and Nelson Mandela who is the head of Youth business Trust in South Africa.  We have access to finance, technology and tools being a part of this network.”                       

Since the launch of Youth Business Trust Belize last year they have been working toward accreditation and have assisted more that 50 young entrepreneurs to develop and maintain their own businesses.  Earlier this year Y-B-T-B was assessed by Challenges International before being accredited into the network.

“We are accredited up until 2011 and we will be up for review again to see if we will be accredited when that time comes. So we have to make sure that we keep doing what we are doing and in our weak areas then we have to make sure that we improve to make sure that we get accredited again. Our Project Director is presently in Edinburg Scotland where she is attending the Youth Business International Conference where all the countries that are a part of this network get together and share ideas and best practices of how things are done in their respective countries.”       

Youth Business Trust Belize is now the only local economic development initiative in Belize that focuses on young persons that have a business idea and links them to enterprise development assistance, business mentors, and micro-financing to develop micro-enterprises in a single package.  The project is being funded by the Inter American Development Bank.
