BELIZE HOST 6TH CONFERENCE OF THE ORGANIZATION OF CARIBBEAN UTILITY REGULATORS

The sixth conference of the Organization of Caribbean Utility Regulators opened today at the Princess Hotel and Casino. The Public Utilities Commission of Belize is the host regulator of the 3 day event. Manager of Communication and Consumer Affairs at PUC, Ann Wade tells us more.

“This conference which is the premier event and occurs yearly brings together professionals and experts in the field of regulation in the utility sectors from around the Caribbean from different part of the world including Europe, South America and the United States to share information, to learn from each other’s experience and to network. It’s a very important occasion for us here in Belize as we will have the opportunity to have all of these people from seventy to a hundred individuals who are involved in one form or another in the utility sectors from where they come to share with us here in Belize their knowledge and their information. We will have quite a bit of Belizean participation as well.”

Belize is a member of the Caribbean Utility Regulator and welcomes the opportunity to host other regulators from more than 50 countries in the region.

“We will have a number of presentations from local experts in the field, the utility sector; the Public Utilities Commission will be doing two presentations during the conference. We will also have a presentation by the CEO and Chairman of Telemedia and the CEO of the Belize Water Services Limited. It is a three day conference and we have a number of presentations in the different areas that are regulated mainly in the Caribbean which area Telecommunications, Electricity, Water and Waste Water.”

The conference is being held under the theme “Toward a Common Utility Regulatory Framework in the Caribbean”.
