MINISTRY OF EDUCATION CONDUCTS COUNTRYWIDE TEXTBOOK CONSULTATIONS

The Ministry of Education is conducting public Text Book Consultations Countrywide. Education Information Officer Arlette Gomez tells us more.

“The Ministry felt that the even though they are in support of the concept of the Text Book Program they felt that it was introduced in haste without the proper consultation. The Minister of Education had promised on taking office that the Ministry would conduct public consultations nation wide. He is now fulfilling that promise and we are traveling country wide to do those consultations. We have already started the process; we started in Punta Gorda last week. It is just to get the opinions of all stakeholders in the Ministry of Education with regards to the program. This look at the program will be as it now stands to find out in what way if any there will need to be improvement.”

Gomez tells us what will happen after the consultations have been completed.

“After the consultations there will be focus groups. We will have experts from each field or each subject to go through the comments and the recommendations that we have received. From there we will make whatever adjustments that needs to be made. We just need people to understand that it is a comprehensive evaluation and the only way that we will be able to get any information for any amendments, if necessary, is for people to come out to these consultations and voice their opinions and give us whatever concerns they may have. So we are seeking the participation of parents, teachers, principals, management of schools, book publishers, or any other interested parties: Students Parents, anybody who want to be a part of the process.”

The next consultation will be held tomorrow in Dangriga at Sacred Heard Parish Hall at 6:30pm.
