HAITIAN WOMAN DROWNS AFTER SLOOP RAN AGROUND Jul 10, 2012

 

A woman drowned earlier today after the Haitian sloop she was on ran aground in Southern new Providence. Authorities believe she was in her late 20’s. Dozen more Haitian Migrants are in custody. According to authorities, Royal Bahamas defense force and immigration officers received reports that a Haitian sloop had come ashore in the south beach area.

The RBDF dispatched two vessels and officers confirmed the sloop had ran aground and that they were searching for more migrants. About a dozen Hatians were apprehended in the area of the Sea Breeze Canal and dozens more in the South Beach area. Authorities also confirmed that there were a 110 illegal migrants in custody today including six children three girls and three boys.

RBDF said the migrants were badly dehydrated and seven of the group is listed in critical condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
