Bullying and sexual harassment: that’s what an investigation into the death of BDF soldier, Micha Miguel has found. Commander of the BDF, Brigadier General Azariel Loria told the media that the court of inquiry’s investigation has concluded and there is (quote) “Circumstantial evidence of sexual harassment by an individual”. The Brigadier General explains that how this case proceeds from here on out relies on text messages that can be found in her cell phone, a device that is currently in police custody.
Brig. Gen. Azariel Loria, Commander, Belize Defence Force: “We have the court of inquiry, it is finished it has been handed over to me by and large it is mostly private matters that I cannot disclose to the public. There is circumstantial evidence that bullying did occur and also that there is evidence, circumstantial evidence of sexual harassment too by an individual. At this point in time it’s circumstantial. The court of inquiry couldn’t verify if it is factual and there is this reason why it could not be verified because some text messages are in her phone and however very unfortunate for us it is in the police’s custody we couldn’t retrieve it so whenever the police department finishes with their investigation we will try to access the contents of what was in that cellphone when it comes to the harassment of this individual and then we will take it up from there.”
