Belize Bureau of Standards hosts Clean Energy Fair in the Capital

Yesterday, the Belize Bureau of Standards hosted a clean energy fair in the city of Belmopan. It coincided with yesterday’s international commemoration of World Consumer Rights Day. The event, which was held under the theme, “Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transitions,” was to discuss the need for allowing consumers access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy solutions, as well as to highlight the important role that consumer rights and protection can play. The BBS’s consumer protection liaison officer, Rodolfo Gutierrez explained.

The event featured a number of booths organized by both private and public sector entities. One of those groups was the Lait Up Belize! Project (Light Up Belize). Rachel Sedacy is the project’s communications and visibility officer, who explained the importance of creating awareness.

At the end of the event, organizers hope that we can make purchasing decisions for sustainable energy solutions that promote consumption patterns or lifestyle changes that make a sound contribution towards a culture of sustainability.
