
Belize High School Wins Gold in FIRST Global Challenge 2022

Team Belize won Gold at the FIRST Global Challenge 2022. Belize High School Robotics Team dominated the international robotics competition. The team is comprised of five students and two teachers, who faced off against more than 180 countries in the seven-day competition. The goal is for the various teams to build and program a robot to compete in specific games. A machine was constructed by the team for three months, which was designed and programmed to execute specific tasks. This year’s competition was held in Geneva, Switzerland. The news of the team’s win has been welcomed by all and received national praise. The team is currently on its way back to Belize. This morning, Prime Minister John Briceno congratulated the team during the Sitting of the House of Representatives.
John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Please give me the opportunity to quickly congratulate the Belize High School or BHS who won the FIRST Global Challenge. It’s an Olympic style international robotics competition that takes place in different countries every year. I am told that the teams they work together to complete tasks in game theme, in one of the greatest challenges facing the planet. And here we have little Belize taking on huge countries much more developed countries and our students, our Belizean won the first gold medals.”
