A medical workshop on genito-urethral reconstructive surgery was held in Belize. The workshop brought together a team of four urologists from abroad who conducted presentations and performed a live surgery to demonstrate the minimally invasive approach. The workshop was designed to help Belizean physicians become more adept in this specialized area of medicine. The event was coordinated by the renowned urologist, Dr. Byron Simmons, who is passionate about advancing the field of urology in Belize. He organized the workshop to offer local practitioners the opportunity to learn from leading experts and provide better care for patients.
Dr. Simmons says that with the introduction of this technique, it is hoped that the difficulties and challenges experienced by affected Belizeans will be alleviated. The success of the workshop has sparked discussion of future collaborative efforts to further advance medical education in Belize. One of the key diseases that were tackled during this workshop is urethral stricture, which is caused by scarring that narrows the tube that carries urine out of the body. A team of reconstructive urologists has been in Belize for the past couple of days, conducting theoretical and practical presentations for local physicians. Ukrainian-American urologist Dr. Dimitry Nikolavsky, explains more.
