The Belize Police Department is hoping to regain the trust of the public and repair the fractured relationship to improve its policing efforts. The department has launched a campaign where it will be introducing the hierarchy of the force through media interviews. Today, the first of many high-ranking cops attached to the Eastern Division had their chance to introduce themselves to the public. Senior Superintendent of Police and Commander of Administrations at Eastern Division, Christopher Noble explained how his 31 years of service have prepared him for the dynamics of policing in the Belize District.
Sen.Sup. of Police, Christopher Noble, Commander of Administrations, Eastern Division: “I’ve worked operations, crimes, traffic, precinct, I believe I was in San Pedro for a short while and now back in the city. The advantage is basic that we would be called for any issue that would be related to our work in the Belize district and not have to call persons that were here before that would have to relay that information so it shortens the time span for response. Administratively if the public needs to make a complaint I would direct and we have the Professional Standards Branch and you have your different precinct commanders which come under divisional commanders so the divisional commander being the person that would oversee a precinct and a precinct commander coming under the division.”
Reporter: Sir you had a reputation in San Pedro for keeping things tightly controlled –
Sen.Sup. of Police, Christopher Noble, Commander of Administrations, Eastern Division: “And being the bully right ?”
Reporter: What’s your strategy for bringing those successes forward to Belize City ?
Sen.Sup. of Police, Christopher Noble, Commander of Administrations, Eastern Division: “The strategy for bringing the successes forward is very basic. I said I think six months into the San Pedro stint it’s basic policing and the public can be assured that we’re not running from, we’re running to. If it is that something goes wrong we need to go address it and if you believe that something can go wrong we can come and address it.”
Senior Superintendent of Police, Reymundo Reyes, who is the Deputy Commander of Operations at the Eastern Division, assured the public that he and his officers are committed to crime fighting and the safety of all concerned.
Sen. Sup. of Police, Reymundo Reyes, Deputy Commander Operations, Eastern Division: “My responsibility entails coordinating operations within the Belize district with regard to that of crime wherever we see that there is a rise of crime and so forth then I have meetings with the different commanders and the specialized unit so that we could put in the necessary manpower within that area so that we counter attack the crime within that jurisdiction within that area. I’ve worked at headquarters administrative work then I was sent to Corozal where I worked relief duties, I did operations as that of a QRT commander, did ten years and change as a crimes investigator in the Cayo district and then went to Mango Creek where I was the officer commanding. From there I was brought here in Belize City where I have worked both the north and the south side of the city including the cayes. We vouched to the community of Belize, the Belize district and the country itself that we’re here to serve and protect. We have the 9-1-1 which people could eventually call they do not have to give their name or any sort of information that could link them to the information that they’re providing to us so that we could look at it at the end of the day. As well we have the 9-2-2 TIPS that people could call in and forward certain information to us which will definitely be looked at and give them a feedback at a later date.”
