A Belizean man was a part of a convoy coming to Belize through Mexico when they were robbed at gunpoint of their personal possessions and several vehicles. Reports say that the convoy of drivers were held up with assault rifles, supposedly by Mexican robbers. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon in Veracruz, Mexico; an estimated 13-hour drive from the Belize/Mexico border. The Belizean who was a part of the convoy was Zeke Lino. Our newsroom made contact with Lino today, and he informed us that he had arrived in Chetumal just after four o’clock this evening. Interestingly, Lino took to his social media page yesterday with a message to Belize and US embassies in Mexico, complaining of the challenges in reaching one of the offices for help during the weekends. He noted that, quote, “Three Belizean American National a Guatemalan and four Belizean including myself were forced to stop at gunpoint; robbed of 4 vehicles, 2 trailers including a golf cart, merchandise and personal belongings in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. We are okay and quick response by the Mexican authorities led to the recovery of some items, however the three trucks are still missing.” End of quote
