Police say that a body that was found off a feeder road on the George Price Highway near the Western Paradise community is likely that of a man, who was reported missing. This afternoon, during a media encounter, Police Commissioner Chester Williams explained that the corpse was found with what police believe to be a gunshot wound to the head. The body was already decomposing, and although this was the state of play, the ComPol said investigators are looking at all possible angles.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Indeed this morning police officers were called to a feeder road off the George Price Highway just after the 8 Miles Community and there they discovered the remains of a male person. The body did exhibit what appeared to be a single gunshot to the head. We have identified the person as one of those persons who was reported missing. I’m not sure if the next of kin has been notified so I’m not going to say the name now but I’ll have the press office release that name to you as soon as we’re sure that the next of kin has been notified. At this time police are still in the area canvassing, speaking to people to see what if any information can be obtained and then we see how we go from there. Yes certainly the body is in a state of decomposition and I guess we’d have to await the pathologist to tell us more or less a time of death but yes it is in a state of decomposition. Well we always ensure that we keep all possibilities in our minds as police officers and while yes we don’t anticipate any retaliation our people are on the grounds doing what needs to be done to ensure that there is none. If it is that we need to do interventions or mediations with different groups to stem any possible retaliation then that will be done. I am happy to see that the work that we’re doing through the LIU and the multisectoral approach as well as being complimented by the effective policing is yielding good results for us and we want to make sure that we continue along that path.”
