BVA Male and Female Teams Gear up For Historical Continental Tournament

Belize’s U-19 male and U-21 female teams have qualified to compete in the upcoming Continental Volleyball Championships. This is the first time that the country has qualified to compete in the underage category. The teams were able to secure these spots as a result of their successful performance in the recent Central American Championship. Belize Volleyball Association president, Allan Sharp says that participating in these championships helps the current team and subsequent teams gain significant ranking points, which raise Belize’s continental and world rankings. The teams are now preparing to compete against other countries in the region for a chance to advance to the World Championships.

The male team departs on March 11 for the championship tournament that will be held in Guatemala City from March 23 to 28 and the female team is heading to Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico from May 23 to 28. However, the BVA is still trying to coordinate the availability of female players. Sharp says that right now their biggest concern is the gathering of funds in order to actually participate.
