Today, career banker, Martin Marshalleck, takes over as Chairman of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Board following Dr. Andre Sosa’s removal by the Minister of Health and Wellness. Two weeks ago, Sosa was notified via email that he was being removed as Chairman of the Board. The doctor was temporarily replaced by board member Arun Hotchandani whose stint came to an end yesterday. Health Minister Kevin Bernard announced this morning that Marshalleck will be taking over the post and explained that Sosa’s removal was based on the need to move the hospital forward in a more financially stable manner.
Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness: “I was about to send a little release to the media as I said I was gonna share it to the media but yes after careful consideration we have decided that Mr.Martin Marshalleck will serve as the Chairman of the KHMH Authority Board of Governors. His letter was sent to him yesterday evening and I have made the board aware of that decision this morning. Mr.Marshalleck brings thirty years of manage, financial experience, banking experience and I feel that in order for us to move KHMH like I had said before we need to put KHMH in a more financially viable footing and we think we need that direction. Now the other members of the board we have doctors on the board so they are the ones that will provide the technical assistance to the chairman in order for us to ensure that there’s a balance in terms of what the health needs within the KHMH, what are the technical things that need to be addressed and of course from a managerial standpoint we believe that Mr.Marshalleck will be able to bring that balance together and be able to move KHMH forward.”
Reporter: Was Dr.Sosa not fulfilling those requirements of the hospital ?
Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness: “I would not say that and I will not get into Dr.Sosa. I think that we have passed that already. We made a decision to make a change. Dr.Sosa did his very best I would not dispute that either but I believe we need a new direction and that’s the decision we have taken.”
