Cop dies in traffic incident down south

The rank and file of the Belize Police Department is mourning the death of a cop who lost his life over the weekend in a road traffic incident. On Saturday night, around 7 o’clock Police Constable Eledio Teul was riding his motorcycle on the Southern Highway when he lost control. The 24-year-old, who was attached to the Bella Vista Police Station, fell to the pavement and reportedly died instantaneously. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, Teul lost control while attempting to evade a man who ran across the highway.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Police responded to a fatal RTA at Bella Vista Village Toledo district. Upon their arrival they found Elojio Teul, 24 years Belizean Constable with injuries on a motorcycle. Information gathered is that he was driving his motorcycle on the highway when a male person crossed the road and he struck the male person causing him to fall from the motorcycle. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation is being carried out at this time. There is one person who was crossing the highway, he received injuries and is presently admitted to the KHMH.”
