Deputy Comptroller Thompson told the media that the shipments of drugs, edible sweets and narcotics, are not their only concern. He noted that they find themselves having to deal with a wide assortment of illicit packages.
Lawrence Thompson, Deputy Comptroller Enforcement and Compliance: “We have found a lot of illicit activities. We found marijuana in barrels, we found firearms in barrels, we found firearm parts, restricted prohibited. People will always try to smuggle things in the country it’s our job to detect it and so we have enhanced our risk management, our enforcement and investigation units to be able to stem this type of activity. We have intercepted gummies before and we have destroyed these commodities. The intercepts I do not have the precise dates but these intercepts have occurred in the last year. We do not announce our intercepts, we destroy them and we try to pursue whatever investigation we have so that we can at the very least disrupt and the very most prosecute those who are responsible.”
Reporter: Destroy along with police though right ?
Lawrence Thompson, Deputy Comptroller Enforcement and Compliance: “Yes. We work with the police for the destruction of these commodities.”
