The newly reconstituted Environmental Tribunal has to seek a replacement. That’s because the previously announced private sector representative, Lucy Fleming, has decided to step aside. Love News has learned that Fleming, who was to replace Senator Kevin Herrera, will no longer be participating following an announcement by the Ministry of Sustainable Development a fortnight ago. This tribunal is tasked with reviewing the Department of the Environment’s decision to reject Waterloo’s Port of Belize Port Expansion and Cruise Tourism Project. As you will remember, the Ministry decided not to give the project environmental clearance. With Fleming’s departure, the tribunal’s work will likely be delayed until a replacement is announced. No word yet on who that third person will be, but they will be joining High Court Judge Patricia Farnese (far-nee-see) and Professor Terrance Hughes. Justice Farnese will continue to be the chair.
