Tonight, the family of 21-year-old Freddy Chicas is yet to confirm whether the body found last week was him. On Friday, a search party went out looking for Chicas and found the body of a man on a feeder road off the George Price Highway. The decomposing body is believed to be that of the missing man, who vanished on March 5, but an official post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted on the remains. Police Press Officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, explained that the examination will determine the man’s true identity and possible time of death.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “I haven’t received a official confirmation of identity but all indications are it’s a person that we sent out a missing person flier for last week. Of course you know when it comes to people’s loved ones you want to be at least certain before we put their loved one’s names out there and would have to retract.”
Reporter: I think the family accepts that it’s Mr.Chicas.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Well until I get that official document saying that it’s him I will have to hold off on the identity.”
Love News reached out to Chicas’ family who stated that they are still without any closure and are yet to confirm whether the body found on Friday was their missing loved one.
