Gang Members Fleeing to the US

The man who is heard in the recording is currently in the US. Apparently, he went there to seek asylum. And, he is not the only gang figure who had fled to the US as an asylum seeker. Williams shared his views on the matter. 

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “It is something that we have been monitoring. I know for a fact that a number of them had gone and while some were caught and returned some of them made it through and are now seeking asylum in the US. It’s a matter for the US authority to determine whether or not they’re going to accept their claim and grant the asylum or if they’re going to return them back to Belize. If they are returned to Belize then they continue to be a problem for us and we continue to monitor them with a view to see if we can bring charges against them in respect of gang activities in Belize.”
