Reports surfaced this morning of the closure of Golden Tree Hotel on Coney Drive, Belize City. Its involuntary closure stems from multiple complaints received from customers regarding the cleanliness and safety of the facility. We asked Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, if this was an order from his ministry, but he was unable to confirm given that he is currently in Switzerland. What he did say, however, is that the ministry’s health inspectors are becoming stricter in ensuring that facilities are adhering to the required standards.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness: “I cannot respond to that one but I am pretty sure that our inspectors they have been doing not only hotels but they have been doing a lot. I know that our drug inspectorate have been out in the different areas, shops, supermarkets, taking out expired goods, shutting down if they need to or giving people stiff warnings and taking certain measures. We have to deal with all of these issues on a daily basis and if a facility does not meet the standard then we have to do what we need to do.”
Love News have confirmed that the closure of Golden Tree was ordered by the Belize Tourism Board. We further understand that the Fire Department was called in to conduct an inspection, but reports says that the matter was more of a health issue as the facility was not well kept.
