Good Samaritans are working to rebuild the “Word of Faith Church”

The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) is working with residents of Hattieville Village to rebuild the True Word Apostolic Church better known as the “Word of Faith Church”. The church lost its roof and was damaged by Hurricane Lisa. The church through the PAW had recently renovated the structure in June and says the loss is a massive blow to the community. In light of the tragic situation representatives of PAW travelled to Belize from the United States to assess the damage. Bishop Lafayette Boyd, who is responsible for the Pentecostal Diocese of Belize, spoke about the organization’s efforts to rebuild the church.

Lafayette Boyd, Bishop, Pentecostal Diocese of Belize: ““We just renovated the entire church. It was a major encouragement to the people within Hattieville. They were excited. It is devastating to see the damage that the hurricane inflicted upon the building. In fact, it’s a little discouraging for our pastor within the church however he is motivated, and we are working together with him to rebuild and also continue ministry during to the people within the Hattieville area. So that’s why we’re here. Once we saw the footage on the Love channel and the devastation we wasted no time in getting down here to survey the damage and to begin our fundraising and rebuilding efforts so that we can get back on our feet. We are looking at continuing services in the community center within that community but we are wasting no time in getting things repaired so that we could move forward.”

The Bishop and his wife, Ernese Boyd, also shared how residents can do their part in assisting to rebuild the place of worship.

Lafayette Boyd, Bishop, Pentecostal Diocese of Belize:  “We are going to have a pantry bag giveaway this coming Saturday for the residents of Hattieville where we’re going to be giving out basic needs, the flour and other things that the residents need for their households. In addition to that we’re looking to raise money to go toward the rebuilding process whatever anyone can do is a help. In addition to that what we would like to do is we’re bringing our pastors within our organization together, we are helpers together and looking to assist. I’m pulling efforts from the influence that I have in the states to assist but at the same time we need labor, we need laborers those who would donate their skill set in rebuilding the church.”

Ernese Boyd, Member, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World: “Me, feel the same way being a part of Belize because this is my home and this is where I come from so it hurts to see the church where it is now because of all the effort we put in there but we are just asking everybody who could help in any way whether it’s your money, your labor, your prayers whatever you could give, give because it will make a difference to Hattieville and to the country of Belize. I just want to say thank you in advance and for those in the states I want to say thank you in advance as well for your help and your support May God bless you all.”
