Health Minister Refutes Claims of Hospital Partnership in Southern Belize

The Minister of Health is refuting a claim made by a non-profit organization (NGO) operating out of the south. Last month, ABC Medical Mission Belize sent out a press release claiming that they would be constructing a hospital in Independence Village with the assistance of the Taiwanese and Belizean governments. The group’s release alleged that a partnership was established that would see the facility provide free general health care to people in that rural area. However, Health Minister, Kevin Bernard, says the release was misleading and that the idea is simply just that, an idea.

Minister Bernard went on to further state that his ministry is working to place stringent measures on NGOs and missions that visit the country to provide health care assistance. He says the measures will ensure Belizean citizens receive quality care from certified professionals.
