High COVID-19 vaccination rates at the Belize Central Prison

One of the main factors that led to the Belize Central Prison’s noteworthy management of COVID-19 during the height of the pandemic was the high vaccination rate among its population. The facility was able to vaccinate a hundred percent of its staff and ninety percent of its inmate population, which currently stands at 1150. The high percentage is said to be a driving factor that led to the prison’s low number of cases and no COVID-19-related deaths. The Kolbe Foundation’s CEO, Virgilio Murillo, explained that while some inmates were initially skeptical, the majority quickly realized the vaccines’ importance.
