
Hotelier disarms gun-wielding man

A San Pedro Businessman was able to disarm a gun-wielding man during an attack over the weekend. On Saturday night, around 11 o’clock, 52-year-old Ahmad Harmouch was attending to a guest when he was assaulted by a man with a firearm. A struggle ensued between both persons that led to Harmouch disarming the culprit. Police in the area then responded to the scene, retrieved the firearm, and detained the culprit. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says police have since charged the assailant and confiscated his licensed firearm.
ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Ahmad Harmouch reported that whilst he was opening the gate of his hotel he was approached by a male person who pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him. The person also threatened him at which time a struggle ensued and Harmouch managed to take away the firearm from this person. The police was called, the firearm was retrieved and the person was detained. Ruben Lauren has since been arrested and charged for threat of death, aggravated assault, possession of firearm whilst under the influence of alcohol.”
