As part of global activities marking International Women’s day, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Valerie Woods is participating in events at the United Nations 67th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Meetings. Woods, who is the vice president of the CSW, is at the UN Headquarters in New York participating in meetings, which were organized by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and UN Women. It’s part of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. A release from the National Assembly says that the meetings’ focal points included the role of parliamentarians in advancing gender equality through technology, the addressing of gaps in accessibility and affordability to digital literacy, and tools and skills to tackle gender-based violence and its impacts. The Speaker will return home tomorrow and she will preside over the House Meeting on Friday during which Prime Minister John Briceño will present the budget for the next fiscal year.
