ICA Launches Womxn in Art Exhibit Featuring Belizean Artists

The Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) in Belize City will be launching an art exhibit entitled “Women in Art”, showcasing the work of Belizean women in various mediums. This includes paintings, graphics and digital designs and photography that were created by over thirty women from all age groups. The exhibit aims to highlight the significant contribution of women to the art scene in Belize. ICA’s Director Kim Vasquez says that the exhibit is a celebration of the creativity and talent of Belizean women and aims to inspire future generations of female artists. The exhibit was curated by renowned artist, Gilvano Swasey, and he says this year’s exhibit is an impressive demonstration of diversity and skill showcased by the featured artists and he hopes it will inspire the younger generation.

The media was able to get a sneak peek of the exhibit today and had the opportunity to speak with two artists whose artwork will be on display in the gallery. Twenty-year-old, Shahera Young, is an upcoming painter who draws inspiration from her appearance and personality and translates that onto a black canvas. Yaoling Lee will be tomorrow’s speaker, and she explains that her art career was put on pause at one point in her life because she became a mom, but now that her children are grown, she decided to take up her paintbrush.
