Gun violence last night in rural Belize left two students, one of whom is a minor, injured. Just after seven o’clock, shots rang out on Edwin Parks Avenue in Ladyville Village. And, when the noise subdued, residents in the area found sixteen-year-old Kylee Gordon and twenty-year-old Harrison Parks suffering from gunshot wounds. Reporter Vejea Alvarez tells us more.
Vejea Alvarez, Love FM News: Tonight a man and a minor from rural Belize are lucky to be alive after being targeted in a drive by shooting last night. Just after seven o’clock sixteen year old Kylie Gordon and 21 year old Orson Parks were walking Edwin Parks Avenue in Lord’s Bank Village when they encountered a gunman inside a gray vehicle. The assailant opened fire on the pair and fled the scene but not before injuring both Parks and Gordon in their hips. The minor was then rushed by police to the hospital what Parks was ferried by his family. Love News understands that Gordon underwent surgery to remove the bullet as in stable condition and Parks received medical attention and was discharged. The families of both victims have declined to comment on the matter but each says that the high school and university students respectively were targeting for no apparent reason. Parks had just left classes as the University of Belize and was on his way home when he came under fire while Gordon was returning home from the store. The incident has left the community in a state of concern given that less than a week ago a man was shot to death in the same general vicinity. Police investigations into the incidents continue.
