Man dies in road traffic incident in Cayo District

Love News has received additional details in connection with yesterday’s fatal road traffic incident in rural Cayo. At around 12:30 yesterday afternoon, 21-year-old Brian Mendoza, a manager for LP Gas, and a customer service agent 19-year-old Eduardo Lopez were travelling on the Iguana Creek Road near Belize Natural Energy Installations. Mendoza and Lopez had intended on putting a company sign near the Blackman Eddy Village Roundabout. Love News understands that as they proceeded down the road, Mendoza saw two men, on separate motorcycles and several other vehicles approach in the opposite direction. The motorcycles advanced sliding themselves within the spaces of the vehicles that were approaching the white Ford F-150 Mendoza and Lopez were in. The bike, which 36-year-old Jacob Giesbrecht was on, overtook one of the vehicles. It is reported Giesbrecht swerved left and then lost control, colliding into the left front portion of the truck. Mendoza tried to avoid the collision by moving right but his effort was futile. Giesbrecht died on the spot as a result of the impact. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Community Hospital. He was then transported to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.
