Maya Centre Villagers Say A Resounding “No!” to New Water Board Chairman

The villagers of Maya Centre, Stann Creek District, continue to express outright disapproval of the appointment of a new water board chairman. The villagers are concerned because the newly appointed chairman is the village council chairman’s brother. They fear that this is merely a political strategy. A handover was due to take place on Friday; however, that did not happen because the villagers staged a protest in the village to prevent it. A second attempt was made on Sunday, and in the amateur video captured on a cellphone by one of the villagers, you can hear the villagers unanimously bellowing cries of rejection of the new appointment.
