Maya Centre Villagers Want Chairman to be Removed

Yesterday, we told you about the public meeting held in Maya Centre Village in the Stann Creek District. Present at the meeting was the area representative for Stann Creek West, Rodwell Ferguson. The discussions were robust, with the villagers standing their ground. The villagers were up in arms after the Minister Responsible for Rural Transformation, Oscar Requena, in consultation with the village council and area representative, decided to appoint a new chairman of the water board. The villagers were not happy, and during the meeting, Ferguson assured them that the composition of the water board would not be disturbed. But, during the meeting, one of the villagers read a petition calling for the removal of the village council chairman. Here is that exchange.
