More Improvements Needed in the Medical Field

Byron Simmons also called for the improvement of medical services offered to Belizeans. In an interview with Love News today, Dr. Simmons stated that while Belize continues to make significant strides in healthcare, there is still much work to be done, specifically in the field of urology and cancer treatment. He noted that many Belizeans are forced to travel abroad for specialized treatment, which can be both costly and inconvenient. Dr. Simmons highlighted the need for investment in training and equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary tools, as well as expanding access to advanced medical technologies.

Dr.Byron Simmons, Urologist, Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital: “In Belize I think we need to move the needle forward in regards to the type of services that we can offer the population. I think the discussion should now be more advanced in the sense that we should be talking about technologies such as minimally invasive surgeries in all of our hospitals not only at KHMH but in the regions also we need to improve in terms of our results we get in terms of cancer treatment, we need to have a more integrally established cancer program. We need to develop new technologies in medicine such as transplant, renal transplant that is and this is one more facet of that whereby we’re trying to improve the services that the Belizean public has in regards to reconstructing their urethra and having them have more of a better quality of life, normal lifestyle.”
