The Government of Belize will be receiving its fleet of electric buses from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by early 2023. Love News broke the news about the UNDP facilitating the Ministry of Transport and the Belize City Council with grants to acquire electric buses, which will be running on Belize’s roads. Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson, says the buses will be assigned to an existing bus operator to make runs on the Western Highway for one year.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transportation: “Once those buses come through they will go and be used by operators that are already existing.”
For the Department of Transport?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transportation: “No we are the implementing agency but we will give the bus to a particular person, a company and say you know what this is a pilot run for one year you run this and let’s see how it works. I went to a meeting with UNDP two or three days ago I told them we all need to sit down with the operators let them be a part of the process, a part of the conversation so that they can understand so that will happen very soon. I’m not looking out to leave out anybody it is to improve the system.”
