New Mangroves to Be Planted in the Corozal Bay Area

Corozal Bay Area Representative, Elvia Vega, recently came under heavy criticism for removing a portion of the mangrove along the Corozal Bay Area last weekend. Three men were detained by police custody in Corozal and were to be charged for undergoing this illegal process since Vega did not possess a permit at the time. Vega has since posted on her social media account to say that the entire situation was blown out of proportion. Today, we asked Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet, if further investigations have been done. He explains that Vega had applied for a permit, but it was not ready before the weekend. He adds that the mangroves were removed as part of a project that the Area Rep is currently working on and that there are efforts in place to preserve the shrubs in that area.
