No major negative impacts on tourism following Seine Bight incident expected, says Minister Musa

Authorities are still conducting investigations into last week’s incident on the Placencia Peninsula. The aggravated burglary happened at the Sirenian Bay Resort, near Seine Bight. Although there were no major injuries or thefts reported, the brazenness of the crime remains a concern for the authorities. When asked to discuss the situation today, Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa was confident that this case would not have any major negative impacts on tourism.

Hon. Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries: “That particular incident we’re still obviously looking for the suspects. Thankful no one was hurt in that incident I believe only a cellphone was stolen if I’m not mistaken. But definitely those types of things do have an impact. I do not think it will have an overall impact on tourism. Tourists by and large are safe, extremely safe when they come to Belize and so I do not feel it will have that effect.”
