Orange Walk Police get new truck and radios

The Orange Walk Police Formation has received a much-needed upgrade to its fleet of vehicles. Yesterday, Prime Minister John Briceno handed over two new pick-up trucks to the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams. The vehicles will improve the cops’ patrolling efforts and aid in their transportation. Yesterday, the PM and ComPol Williams explained the importance of improving the police’s mobility.

Communication is important, mobility is important. Policing is not just being here at the station but being out in the field, in some instances walking in the neighborhoods but at the same time to be able to respond very quickly and that’s what our government is trying to do working along with the police to be able to provide better service and have our citizens feel safer.”

A couple weeks ago we had a meeting at the Trial Farm area discussing the issue of crime and at that meeting people were concerned about security and the need for additional mobility in Orange Walk Town. That was raised to the Prime Minister and quickly he decided you know what I’m going to respond to the need of the people in Orange Walk and so the vehicle came about today. And so we’re grateful. I’m sure the Orange Walk people are going to be extremely happy to see the police will be able to move around more freely responding to their calls and their needs for services.”
