OW East Area Representatives returns land to the government

Orange Walk East Area Representative Kevin Bernard has returned two point zero seven acres of land to the Government of Belize. This parcel of land is located in Carmelita Village in Bernard’s constituency and is considered a “green space”. Bernard acquired the land and later had it fenced. The opposition quickly accused the minister of land grabbing. Elodio Aragon, the UDP’s standard bearer for Orange Walk East, had written to Prime Minister John Briceno, asking that the decision to sell the land to Bernard be reversed.  A leaked document obtained by Love News shows that Bernard transferred the property back to the government earlier this month. When contacted, Bernard told Love News that there were plans to develop the area. He told us that in the “interest of having a conscience, he returned the eight parcels of land that he paid eight thousand dollars for to the government—something he says the UDPs would have never done.
