Former PUP Senator and Albert standard bearer, Paul Thompson is the incoming Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources, Cordel Hyde confirmed that this evening. Thompson replaces Nelda Tulcey, who has been on the job for about year. Minister Hyde spoke to the media earlier this evening.
Hon.Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining: “I think I have to thank the two females who have agreed to be my CEO over the last couple years. They both served twelve months. Listen the job of CEO is demanding. The job of a CEO in the Ministry of Natural Resources is stressful, is taxing, is debilitating, it takes a lot out of you. A lot of time from your family, it’s a really really difficult job and ultimately these women after a year in both instances opted to return to their previous career. I have to use the opportunity to thank them. I appreciate the effort, I appreciate working with them, I appreciate what we’ve been able to accomplish but there’s so much more we have to do so I’m looking forward to this new chapter. I don’t think there’s anything about the twelve months it just so happens to be that after a year people assess where they are and try to figure out what direction they want to go. Me I’m uncomfortable with leadership to be honest with you. I am impatient, I’m anxious, I don’t sleep at night, I work seven days a week because I’m always trying to figure out how do we get it better ? How do we do it right ? How do we make sure that more people get access to land ? How do we make sure that the waiting time is less ? How do we make sure that we do our jobs and do it well ? I’m anxious and so I may be difficult to work I would want to imagine.”
Reporter: So who is the person that is likely to be your next CEO ?
Hon.Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining: “It will be Paul Thompson. Former Senator Paul Thompson, former candidate in the Albert division. He has understudied those two women over the last two years really. I know he’s learned a great deal from them. He knows the ministry well. He knows all the issues. He’s worked with all the key players. He’s well known in there, well liked, well respected so he’s the man.”
