A Belize City teen is on the lam after he allegedly targeted a man in Belize City. On Sunday night, 31-year-old Sheldon Thomas was socializing on Hercilett Moody Street when a lone gunman approached him. The assailants opened fire on Thomas, hitting him in the lower abdomen and left thigh. Thomas was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, while his attacker made good his escape. Senior Superintendent of Police, Hilberto Romero, says that investigators have identified a suspect and are seeking a teenage for the shooting incident.
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Police responded to a shooting incident at Krooman Lagoon in Belize City. Upon their arrival they found Sheldon Thomas, 31 years, with gunshot injury to the body. He was taken to the KHMH where he is receiving treatment and is in a stable condition. Initial investigation is that he was at the Krooman Lagoon area with another male person when he was approached by three other persons one who fired a shot which caught him to the body. We are seeking on suspect in regards to this shooting.”
The Belize Police Department is commending one of its officers who foiled a shooting incident over the weekend in Belize City. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, an off-duty cop was standing in his family yard on Price Alley when he heard the sound of gunshots. Shortly after he saw a man who exited from Rhaburns’ Alley and opened fire on a group of men on Victoria Street. Senior Superintendent of Police, Hilberto Romero, says the cop then opened fire on the shooter but came under fire from another gunman.
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Upon their arrival they found Kenroy Elijo, 31 years, with a gun shot injury to the arm. Information received from the area is that two persons came to a yard in that area in Victoria Street and they wanted to shoot at someone and at this point a police officer who was in the area responded to the shots fired and began to fire shots toward the male persons who were firing. The two male persons made good their escape and thereafter Kenroy Elijio was found with that gun shot to the elbow
Reporter: Have any of the suspects been identified ?
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Yes we have identified one of the suspects. He is now in custody and will be charged.”
Reporter: In terms of a motive behind this shooting?
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “We have not established a clear motive. The information is that they came to that yard and wanted to shoot at someone.”
Over the weekend, two men from Northern Belize were targeted in a shooting incident that escalated from an argument at a nightclub. Around 2 o’clock on Saturday morning, 41-year-old Pedro Molina and 48-year-old Luis Ucan were at Molina’s residence when they were ambushed by two men. The assailants, one of whom was armed with a firearm, then opened fire on the men. Senior Superintendent of Police, Hilberto Romero, says the men then began to beat Ucan and Molina before they fled the area.
Hilberto Romero, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Investigation is that they were at a house when two male persons came in one armed with a firearm who shot Ucan and the other one proceeded to hit Molina on the forehead with a metal pipe. Both persons were take to the Orange Walk Hospital where they are presently in stable condition. We have identified two suspects for this incident and we’re looking for both of them. Thereafter they will be charged.”
