Prime Minister speaks briefly on weed sweets scandal and ongoing investigation

Prime Minister John Briceno spoke on the distribution of the weed sweets for the first time this week.  He spoke briefly on the matter, but says he has been kept up to date on the investigation and the condition of the victims.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “The first information when it happened I was immediately alerted about what happened and again both the Minister and the Commissioner of Police said that they will leave no stone unturned to be able to find the perpetrators, those that are responsible for this. It is irrelevant if it is a police officer or not that person has to be brought to justice. I don’t think we could find the right adjectives to be able to describe you know when you found out that all of these little kids were given edibles that seem to be laced with marijuana and it’s I don’t think there are words to describe how you felt and especially the parents when they saw how their children were behaving being induced by some sort of drugs and it just shows that as a society we have to be careful with everything that we do and ensure that these things should not happen and we have to ensure that it never happens again to our children.”
