Project UNHabitat launched to provide training in sustainable urban development

The Ministry of Local Government is working with municipal bodies to bolster the country’s resiliency to climate change. Today, the ministry in partnership with the Secretaría de la Integración Social Centro Americana launched the UNHabitat’s project titled “Our City Plans Central America platform Belize”. The initiative aims to provide training in sustainable urban development to city and town planners. According to Minister of Local Government, Oscar Requena, the overarching goal is to ensure that municipal bodies develop strategies in disaster risk management and climate resiliency. Requena says that the recent impact of Hurricane Lisa on Belize City echoed the need to be better prepared in instances of natural disasters.
