PUP Wants PUP Punta Gorda Town Councilor to Resign Amid Allegations of Assault

A Punta Gorda Town councilor is being investigated for physically assaulting a woman. It is not clear when the incident occurred, but we are told that the woman reported to PG police that she was punched by the male councilor. Love News reached out to the town councilor, and he told us, “Let us see where the judiciary process will take us”. He would not confirm or deny the reports. Our request to the Belize Police Department for information has gone unanswered. Meanwhile the councilor’s party, the PUP, is calling for his resignation. In a release, the PUP states (quote) “After carefully examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Party sees no other alternative but to call for the immediate resignation of the Councillor. As a Party and government, the PUP has zero tolerance to all forms of domestic violence!” (end of quote) This month, the country joins the rest of the world in celebrating Women’s Month.
